A description of the DCS
The DCS (disability consultancy service) is a social enterprise that has been setup by people who use services so that agencies such as Social Services and Health have easy access to a range of trained, independent, and knowledgeable people.
Why was DCS formed?
DCS has been formed for a number of reasons:
- Currently, for people on benefits, the maximum that can be earned in a week without it affecting benefits is £20. Statutory Agencies pay £8 per hour for all types of consultations, so people are losing out.
- By forming as a group, people who use the services can develop a stronger, more independent voice, and be more effective advocates for the types of services required.
- As an independent group, DCS can attract can funding towards training for it's members.
Who is in the DCS?
DCS is unique in being a group that is equally inclusive of people with physical, sensory, learning disabilities, and mental health needs.
