A description of the DCS

The DCS (disability consultancy service) is a social enterprise that has been setup by people who use services  so that agencies such as Social Services and Health have easy access to a range of trained, independent, and knowledgeable people.

Why was DCS formed?

DCS has been formed for a number of reasons:

  1. Currently, for people on benefits, the maximum that can be earned in a week without it affecting benefits is £20. Statutory Agencies pay £8 per hour for all types of consultations, so people are losing out.
  2. By forming as a group, people who use the services can develop a stronger, more independent voice, and be more effective advocates for the types of services required.
  3. As an independent group, DCS can attract can funding towards training for it's members.

Who is in the DCS?

DCS is unique in being a group that is equally inclusive of people with physical, sensory, learning disabilities, and mental health needs.
